Code 95 is a document required for truck drivers that want to work professionally within Europe. This document is also required for drivers coming from Ukraine as well as other non EU countries.

Costs
In a world in which transport plays a significant role in economic activity and the movement of goods and people professional driving skills are becoming a necessity. However, acquiring this skill isn't inexpensive. There are a lot of costs to think about, including the costs of training and test. In the Netherlands, the cost of obtaining Code 95 can be as high as 3000 euros. Fortunately, the costs associated with the process of acquiring this certificate are much lower in Poland and can be as low as 1500 to 2000 PLN.
In Europe truck drivers must have the Code 95 Certificate to drive trucks that weigh more than 7.5 tonnes. The certificate has to be added to a driver's license category C or C+E, and is valid for five years. It can also be added to C1 or C1E licences, which allows the driver to drive lighter trailer combinations.
You must pass a psychological test and an examination for medical reasons to earn an Code 95 Certificate. After completing the course you will be issued the plastic Code 95 Certificate that can be inserted in your driving license. The cost of the course includes a medical examination, PKZ service and payment for the plastic Code 95 Certificate.
The cost of the Code 95 certificate is similar to other types of driving classes. It is important to remember that the course must be offered at a CBR-approved school for driving. The CBR has strict protocols that trainers must adhere to. For instance in the event that students are absent from a class, the trainer must report it to the CBR immediately.
The trainee must then visit the Road Traffic Safety Directorate and apply for the renewal of their license. The deadline for renewing the licence is six months from the date of completion of the course. This is to ensure that the driver is at the required knowledge and competence for driving a heavy vehicle. The driver must also know how to read the speed limit and kilometer signs on the road.
Training options
Code 95 on a driver's license signifies that you have completed the necessary training to operate trucks or buses professionally. It is a requirement you must meet every five years in order to renew your driving license. The periodical training requires 35 hours of instruction and can be completed at the driving school or at home (e-learning). It is possible to spread the course over a period of five years. The course is usually covered by your employer.
There are two types of training available for Code 95: the long course and the short course. The long course is approximately four weeks long and concludes with a federal exam. After passing the exam you will be issued a plastic card. The card must be submitted to the database of unified European certificates. The institution where you attended will then send it to the database. It takes 14 days to process the card.
The cost of the long course is around 2,000 PLN, and the exam is 300 PLN. You'll have to pay an additional fee to the school for them to enter your certificate into the unification European database. Once the card is ready, you can collect it at the school.
As trainers you must follow a set of protocols in order to be able provide a course that is Code 95. First, you must submit a plan of training to the CBR. This plan must be approved by the CBR prior to classes begin. You must also adhere to a variety of other strict procedures during the course.

If the application is successful, you'll be able to renew your license with the municipality. If you do not renew your license before the expiry date you won't be able to legally drive for more than 12 hours a week. Exams
To obtain the code 95 on your license you must pass both theoretic and practical tests. These tests can be taken separately or together with the acquiring of the basic category license at a driving school. On successful completion of the exam, you will receive a certificate as well as a code 95 certificate. The card is valid for 5 years and must be renewed before the expiration date.
You can choose between either a short or a lengthy course for the code 95 examination according to the training program. The long course runs for four weeks long and culminates with a test administered by the government. The exam requires you to answer 30 questions on the topics covered in your classes.
After passing the code 95 examination, you are required to follow 35 hours of periodic training (nascholing) every five years. This can be completed in the country where you reside or work in. The instructor will conduct the periodic training. The CBR provides an online tool to locate the right instructor. You will receive a confirmation from both your instructor and CBR after you have completed the course. The CBR will inform the RDW that you have completed your training.You must also have a digital tachograph for vehicles that weigh more than 3,500 kilograms. To operate a truck, you need a driver's licence C. This is the largest driver's license in Europe. In the Netherlands, the requirement is that you pass the initial qualification for professional drivers at the Central Office for Motor Vehicle Driver Testing (Centraal Bureau Rijvaardigheidsbewijzen, or CBR, in Dutch). You also must pass a medical exam.
For passenger vehicles and buses you also need to have an driving license C or D. Bus drivers must pass an oral and written test. Additionally, they must be able to show a code 85 which is a document that proves their professionalism.
Requirements
The purchase of a driver's licence with the code 95 is a must for truck drivers who wish to work in the Netherlands. This indication on a driver's licence proves that they have met the (training) requirements for professional truck drivers (Certificate of Professional Competence, Verklaring van Vakbekwaamheid). Truck drivers cannot be professional drivers for more than 12 hours a week without this.

If you are planning to transport hazardous goods then you must enroll in an ADR basic training course (18 hours). This will give you a five-year ADR driver's certificate. Professional drivers of vehicles carrying dangerous goods must pass this course.
In 2011, a new type of licence for trucks and buses was introduced. This is a laminated driver's licence card that resembles to the European driving license card. It contains the driver's photo and name (in Latin or Cyrillic) along with the date and location of issue, the categories allowed, and the signature. The older booklet-style and credit-card licences are no longer issued.
